Person holding smartphone with “Forgot password?” on screen next to a laptop showing a password error warning

We’ve all been there. You sit down to log in and… nothing. Wrong password. Try again. Still wrong. Then comes the dreaded “Account Locked” message 😩

Don’t worry it happens more often than you’d think. At Ballarat Tech Help, we regularly help people get back into their accounts, laptops, phones, and emails. Here’s how to recover a forgotten password the smart way before you get locked out for good.

Forgot Your Email Password? Start Here 📧

The fix:

  • Go to the email login page (e.g. Gmail, Outlook)
  • Click “Forgot password?”
  • Follow the recovery steps using your phone, backup email, or security questions

💡 Make sure your phone number and backup email are up to date it makes this process way easier.

Locked Out of Your Windows or Mac Account?

Windows Fix:

  • On the login screen, click “I forgot my password” if you’re using a Microsoft account
  • If it’s a local account, you may need a password reset disk or administrator access

Mac Fix:

  • On the login screen, click the question mark or “Reset it using your Apple ID” (if enabled)
  • If that doesn’t work, you may need to boot into recovery mode to reset the password

🔒 Need help with a stuck login? We can assist with Windows resets safely.

Forgot Your Phone Passcode? (iPhone or Android) 📱

iPhone Fix:

  • If you’ve entered the wrong passcode too many times, you’ll need to reset the phone using iTunes, Finder (Mac), or iCloud
  • This process erases the phone, so ensure you have a backup!

Android Fix:

  • Use Find My Device (if enabled) to remotely reset
  • On Samsung phones, use Find My Mobile

👉 We can help back up your data before wiping if you’re unsure.

Reset vs Recover: Which One Do You Need?

  • Recover = You’re still you. You remember part of your login or have access to recovery tools.
  • Reset = You’ve lost access to recovery methods and need to prove your identity

Always try recovery first—it’s faster, easier, and often avoids data loss.

Bonus Tip: Use a Password Manager 🔐

Avoid this whole mess next time with tools like:

  • Bitwarden (free and secure)
  • LastPass or 1Password or Keeper (premium options)
  • Apple Keychain (built into Macs and iPhones)

These tools safely store all your passwords and generate strong ones too.
